At Flesh & Buns we’re all about indulging with big flavours and towers of steamy buns, and there’s nothing wrong with ordering Beef Fat Potato Chips and Japanese Fried Chicken at any time of year.
But – we know for many people, January is all about forming healthy habits for the year ahead. Swerving fried food and looking to get more greens into your diet? Giving Veganuary or Dry Jan a go?
Dining out should always be a treat – and there’s plenty on our menu for everyone.
1 – SASHIMI
Sashimi makes a great starter choice. Low in calories and fat and a great source of protein, vitamins and omega-three fatty acids. Choose from salmon, seabass, tuna or yellowtail – or enjoy a selection of each with our Sashimi Set.
2 – YUZU BERRY SODA
It may be non-alcoholic, but this soft cocktail is so good it outsells half of our boozy range.
Fresh raspberries and blueberries are muddled with cranberry juice. For a little kick, we add yuzu juice – yuzu is a yellowish citrus that’s a staple of Japanese cooking and flavours. Topped with soda for a little fizz, this is a fruity treat for anyone trying Dry January.
We also don’t believe soft cocktails should cost the earth and match their alcoholic counterparts, so our range is great value.
3 – YAKI
If you’re popping in for a light lunch and won’t manage a whole Flesh & Buns platter, our skewers are a great way to sample dishes from our robata grill. Try the crispy piglet with rocoto BBQ or tender chicken with Japanese spices and spring onion.
4 – OLIVE-FED BRITISH WAGYU
Our tenderloin steak is British olive-fed Wagyu, cooked on the robata grill over charcoal. Red meat is packed with iron, zinc and B vitamins, and steak is a fantastic source of high quality protein.
Our steak is served with red onion pickle and shiitake pickle, and a zingy BBQ sauce. It’s big enough to share between two if you’re after a smaller portion, and our team are always happy to swap your bao buns for steamed rice.
One of our favourite meals is made by adding a grilled cucumber to a tenderloin…
5 – GRILLED CUCUMBER SALAD
A generous bowl of mixed leaves with shio dressing, with crunch and the signature Flesh & Buns smoky robata flavour from the grilled cucumber.
It’s delicious with Chicken Yaki – our grilled chicken skewers with Japanese spices and spring onion. It can also be paired with one of our Flesh & Buns platters to add some greens to your meal.
6 – GRILLED TENDERSTEM BROCCOLI
We also have a staff favourite dish in our Tenderstem Broccoli – because if you’re eating greens they may as well be packed with flavour.
The orange miso is sweet and indulgent, and pairs beautifully with the robata-grilled flavour of the broccoli. Before serving we add a sprinkle of bubu arare – tiny rice pops that add crunch.
7 – SALMON TERIYAKI
Salmon has long been viewed as a fantastic health food. Ours is glazed in teriyaki and cooked on the grill, and served with lemon and sea salt, alongside cucumber and daikon pickle. A great source of protein and Omega-3 fatty acids, and delicious in buns, with steamed rice or salad.
8 – MISO AUBERGINE
Trying Veganuary? Our Miso Grilled Aubergine is a guest favourite. Miso and sesame add sweetness and richness to the gooey meat of the aubergine, which is served with carrot and cucumber pickles.
Pair it with our Padron Yaki and and Avocado Miso Maki for a true vegan feast.
9 – SEABASS CEVICHE
Ceviche originates in South America, and sees raw fish or shellfish marinated in citrus. It’s a punchy, vibrant dish – great for sharing. Ours is made with seabass and leche de tigre – the Peruvian citrus marinade.
Plantain chips add crunch, as do canchita – moreish toasted corn nuts that add earthy notes to the dish. It’s another dish with lean protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and vital vitamins and minerals.
10 – LUCKY SAINT
Lucky Saint is one of our best-selling beers, and has taken the UK alcohol-free market by storm since it launched.
Unfiltered, a little hazy and hailing from Bavaria – this beer is the perfect accompaniment to a meal. It has a citrus hop finish and fresh bread aroma, so it can hold its own against our high citrus and sweetness dishes, as well as red meat and lamb.
